Keely Crump

Born in the rural small town of Gore – Southland, Keely always had strong creative ideas but was unsure of how to express herself accurately. She experimented in a range of hobbies from painting and sketching, to photography, digital media and a brief dive into animation and digital art. What began with creating amateur sales posters in MS Paint in a student retail position, quickly became a career direction she wanted to pursue. Dipping her feet in by becoming an in-house designer for Paper Plus Gore and working with industry standard software, she solidified the need to be in the creative industry even further.

After relocating to Christchurch in 2020 to gain the Diploma in Digital Design – Web and Graphic Design qualification, she quickly learned she enjoyed the web development aspects of the course the most and chose to further her studies in Web Design and Development in 2021. Throughout this year Keely found she favoured learning new programming languages more than designing concepts. She built on the HTML and CSS  languages she learnt in 2020 to incorporate a wider range of programming languages that better prepared her for the tech industry. These include Java, Javascript, and PHP alongside gaining experience in the javascript framework Vue.js and working with WordPress on a developer level. These new languages have strengthened Keely’s knowledge and passions, and engaged her interest in back end development. This has given her a foundation to begin building upon as she explores which areas she wants to specialise in. In 2022 she intends to start work in the industry, ideally within a small team or company where she has the ability to expand her knowledge further, in particular gaining experience in a combination of front and back end development.
